Photographer Enid Farber has been documenting musicians since 1979, pursuing "the definitive moment of the musicians' onstage performance and rare moments of their backstage relaxation." Originally from Atlanta, now living in New York, Enid has been a staff photographer for Down Beat since 1987; her work has also appeared in JazzIz, Jazz Times, the Village Voice, the New York Times, Time, Musician, Italy's Musica Jazz, Japan's Swing Journal, Germany's Rolling Stone, and elsewhere. In 1993 Enid's photography appeared in the U.S. Information Agency's Worldwide Traveling Exhibit on Jazz Performers.

"The camera is my instrument," she says. "In the best way that I can, I pay tribute to the musical artist, translating my love for the sounds they create into a photographic image which enables me to relive the experience long after the event. This way I have also been allowed to participate, and I, too, can play the music."
