Along about January, the annual New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival (held
the last weekend of April and first weekend of May at multiple stages on the
Fairgrounds Racetrack) comes into view as a longed for relief from all
that's drab and dreary. The Fest shines an entirely different light on what
jazz is in America -- as demonstrated by photographer Skip Bolen's images
from the attendance-record breaking 2001 fest (see Philip Booth's
story in
the Jazzhouse Library).
